This week I made a decision to get off the Dunk - my morning Dunkin Donuts Ice Coffee that is. It was good on three fronts
1. Financially - because I will be saving $2.40/day, $12/week, $240/month and $2,880 a year! THATS ALOT OF MONEY!
2. Environmental Benefit #1 - I will not be using those plastic cups you get from dunkin donuts that likely end up in landfills
3. Environmental Benefit #2 - Instead of buying a coffee maker that uses electricity and is wasteful I purchased a French Press (no electricity) and a sweet tea pot that I can make tea for my sweetie in!
he is building an eco friendly home - yeah!
last night I Had a dream that I woke up and the rain they predicted for this weekend acutally turned out to be snow... well dreams don't always come true and this christmas eve eve is rainy and sad. my plan was to stick close to home today, do some home type things (laundry, cleaning, etc) but its always nicer to do that when you see sun outside. So I am following my plan - doing laundry and workign on my adobe illustrator skills. I have posted below a sketch of a girl I drew quickly and then used as a basis for my photos shop learning. She is not that good but she was helpful in my pen tool practice. I am about to put in the china girl I drew and work on her. Hailey had on her list a picture of a china girl for christmas so if I can get it right I am going to print it out and frame it up for her.
Christmas is supposed to be cold and snowy and thanks in part to global warming this christmas is going to be warm and rainy. If wanted Christmas's like this I would live in the south or the pacific northwest.
Well now there is a site that can help you do it:
Is a site that specializes in helping people remodel and build in an enviromentall friendly way.
they were trying to determine the amount of pollutants in the air in London in 1900 using paintings!
Read it here:
This article out of the NY Times talks about how the mayor of Youngstown, OH was faced with a crisis of urban decay - and instead of throwign money at improving what he had he took money and reduced the size of what he governed. What resulted, at least from an enviromental standpoint, is the rehabilitation of older homes (good!), teh devevlopment of pocket parks in abandoned lots (very good!) and turning stewardship of the land over to hte people, with penatlies for misuse (excellent!). As a firm believer that its time to downsize our lives in general I think this might be one of the ways to do it!
