In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more and nothing less than what all the world's great religions demand — that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let us be our brother's keeper, scripture tells us. Let us be our sister's keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well. - Barak Obama
Do yourself a FAVOR and go here and listen to Barak Obama's speech given today on race, america and the role it is playing in politics. It is stirring, deep down in your soul stirring, and it gives hope to things that before lacked hope.
I can't say it any better than Wally, so go to his post and read it.
if you are wondering who you are voting for in the next election or are wondering what cause you should get behind let the silly arguements of the supreme court and the EPA be your guide.
I love the anaolgy to a 4 year old - seriously aren't we adults?
This post won't be as robust as I had originally intended because I don't have time.
The election year is gearing up to be intense, mainly because if the republicans pull off what they claim they can, which is retain control, then that victory will be similar in enormity to the Red Sox beating the Yankess in the playoffs in 2004 - its that unlikely.
I have long maintained the reason that the democrates don't win is that they don' tget out and vote, they can't motivate their people. Keep in mind who their demographic is - poor, underpriviledged, minorities, people on assistance. There is no greater group of people who should be out voting and fighting to get the people in power who promise to give them more assistance. Yet, they don't - and that hurts the democrats at election time.
But this year the republicans might feel some pain and just like high school its all about your reputation. They have had a tough year and two recent scandals aren't going to help them. What may help them is their absolute attenditon to detail that the democrats do not have. The republicans are fastidious about getting their people out to vote - the work the doors, the mail, the polls. The republicans are SERIOUS about increasing their numbers as a group. Just think- I bet you can name which friends of your are republican because they evangelize. Maybe not loudly - but quietly and consistently my two Jehovah's Witness cousins when we were kids - always talking about their beliefs.
If you are a democrat and this post makes you mad, and you think I am wrong (and you know who you are!) - then the best thing I can tell you to do is get out and vote this year and prove me wrong.
